PlayStation Move uses a controller topped by a glowing sphere and a camera that tracks its position. The system translates pointing, swinging, and aiming into PS3 games.

Sony is presenting the technology as more precise than a novelty remote. Sports, action, and family games can use motion while still drawing on the PlayStation’s existing graphics hardware.

The launch arrives after Nintendo has made motion a mainstream conversation. Sony’s challenge is software: the controller needs games that make accuracy feel meaningful and keep the accessory from becoming a short-lived experiment.
