Apple introduces iPad
Apple unveils iPad as a multitouch computer for web browsing, media, reading, games, and applications between phone and laptop.

The iPad uses a large multitouch display and a thin body to make browsing, video, photos, books, and games feel immediate. Apple positions it between the iPhone and notebook.
Its software inherits the iPhone’s touch vocabulary while giving applications more room. A dock connector, accelerometer, Wi-Fi, and optional cellular service make the tablet a flexible personal screen.
The open question is whether people want a third computer category. Apple is betting that a simple touch surface can create habits that neither a phone nor a laptop serves well.
